Entry requirements:
Normally 3 A-levels or equivalent at grades A*AA, including mathematics and physics or chemistry. GCSEs or equivalent in English, mathematics and science are required if not offered at A- or AS-level.
Alternative qualifications (eg IB, Foundation or Access course, Scottish Highers, etc) at a comparable level will also be considered.

Programme Aims
At the end of the programme students should:
- understand the baseline and advanced principles of Chemical Engineering and how these apply to the nuclear industry;
- be capable of performing accurate analysis within the rigorous standards expected by the nuclear industry;
- have the ability to define problems and develop/evaluate solutions for both basic and complex chemical engineering issues in the nuclear industry;
- have demonstrated the capability to use techniques to acquire and analyse data and chemical engineering information relevant to the nuclear industry;
- be able to demonstrate a range of professional competencies that are relevant to the nuclear industry and show a clear understanding of the regulatory, safety and professionalism expectations of the nuclear industry;
- be able to deploy a range of technical and personal skills in order to pursue a successful career in the nuclear industry in the broadest sense.
Distinctiveness of the programme
The programme is designed to produce graduates who want to pursue a successful career in the chemical, nuclear and related industries.
The modular structure adopted in level 1 (including bridging modules in mathematics, physics and chemistry) allows students with a varied A-level background to become familiar with relevant underpinning science and engineering. Students will also be introduced to a range of transferable technical skills designed to enable them to analyse and communicate technical information and data during the course and in their later professional career, together with an introduction to a nuclear-related design project working as a team.
Level 2 is designed to introduce more complex science and engineering concepts and includes individual and group project work as well as practical laboratory classes. In both cases, experiments and projects will have a nuclear flavour and/or cover specific nuclear-related topics. Because of the commonality in the first 2 years, students will be able to transfer from other Chemical Engineering programmes in SCAPE up to the end of level 2.
Level 3 provides an appropriate standard of subject-specific material to enable BEng Honours graduates to pursue a successful career in the nuclear industry. This includes a mix of relevant topics from both the chemical and nuclear sectors. Students also undertake a major group design project, which for Chemical and Nuclear Engineering students will involve a nuclear-related plant design.
