Programme specification:
In the ‘Primary Care led' NHS, GPs use their knowledge of the health needs of their practice populations to influence the provision of services by hospitals.
Fifty per cent of medical graduates enter general practice and Primary Care is the ideal setting in which to acquire the essential extra skills taught as part of the Applied Health Suite. Feedback from students shows that there is demand for clinical content in an intercalated BSc course so that newly acquired clinical skills are not forgotten.
The intercalated BSc in Primary Care has been running for six years and has proved popular, with 66 graduates to date. The primary care course will remain largely unchanged and we aim to build on its considerable success.
