Entry requirements:

Applicants should have the following:
5 subjects at GCSE Grade C (or above) to include English Language, Mathematics and a science subject
PLUS EITHER
1) 3 subjects at A level excluding General Studies (typical offer ABB), one or more subjects should be a science (for example, Physics, Biology, Chemistry or Maths)
OR
2) BTEC Extended Diploma in Science passed with Distinction/Distinction/Distinction
OR
3) Access to Higher Education Course in Science (kite-marked) with a minimum of 45 level 3 credits passed with Distinction and 15 passed with merit
4) Other qualifications commensurate with the above
English requirements for candidates for whom English is not their first language:
GCSE English Language grade C or above
IELTS: 7.0 overall with not less than 6.5 in every skill
TOEFL: 600 (paper based) with not less than 5.0 in “test of written English”
TOEFL iBT: 100 with minimum scores of 22 in listening, 24 in reading, 24 in speaking and 25 in writing
The candidate must show on application (personal statement) or during the selection process, the following:
 Evidence of recent study (normally within the last 5 years)
 Two satisfactory references (one academic)
 Satisfactory enhanced CRB disclosure and occupational health clearance
 A desire to work in the field of cardiac Physiology
Students will be invited to selection day events, which will include multiple mini-interviews, and following which formal offers will be made’

Programme specification:

The programme sits within the School of Medicine. The School comprises world class researchers and highly experienced clinical and academic staff. Students benefit from being taught by a range of clinical and academic professionals within the School and will learn alongside students from other professions within the School including medicine, radiography and cardiac physiology.
The School comprises a well-established, highly innovative Service User and Carer group. Students on the programme benefit from interactions with members of this group starting at the point of admissions; members contribute to the admissions process via involvement in the Multiple Mini Interviews which are an innovative approach with regards to undergraduate audiology programmes in the UK. (from 2017 for Cardiac Physiology)
Students develop their clinical skills via both practical sessions which take place in dedicated Cardiac Physiology laboratories, and clinical placements within departments across the Yorkshire and Humber region. Students spend a considerable amount of time in clinical placement starting in their first year and increasing in time in their second and third years. All of our students are trained in departments by highly experienced Clinical Educators, all of whom are required to obtain a clinical training qualification from the University.
Due to careful negotiation of the timetable, Cardiac Physiology students are able to enjoy an extended summer break not offered by any other university.
In addition to developing knowledge and clinical competence in routine theoretical and clinical Cardiac Physiology, students also have opportunities to study specialist areas of interest within year 3 (Independent Study module and Research Project). The Year 3 student project/research dissertation provides an opportunity for students to identify their own area of interest and further develop this by undertaking a systematic review of the literature, an audit of practice or empirical research. Students are encouraged to present their findings at national conferences and submit their projects of publication in peer reviewed journal where appropriate.
