Relevant QAA Subject Benchmark Groups:
Subject benchmarks have not been generated for Assistant Healthcare Practitioners. The programme has been developed with reference to the Subject Benchmark Statement for Nursing (2001). It is also designed to ensure that level 1 maps onto outcomes for the first year of the nursing degree such that, with the addition of a bridging module, students have met required level 1 outcomes for progression to level 2 of that degree.
Programme specification:
An Assistant Practitioner (AP) is typically a clinical support worker who competently delivers health and social care to and for people. They have a required level of knowledge and skill beyond that of the traditional healthcare assistant or support worker.
The Foundation Degree(FD) is a full time programme that extends over two years with students graduating in July. The student may exit after one year with a CertHE.
Three core strands run through both years of the Foundation Degree:
-professional working - development of your understanding of the context and nature of work as an assistant practitioner and of your professional skills in this role;
-clinical practice - development of clinical skills and competencies in a range of relevant settings for your role;
-clinical knowledge - understanding of core concepts in human biology that underpin healthcare practice with opportunity for additional specialism in mental health issues.
There is a strong emphasis on students development of their clinical practice coupled with the acquisition of skills for successful study at university. 50% of each year of the programme is clinically based and teaching across modules is designed to help and support you in your learning as reflective practitioners.
This programme is free to all NHS employees working in the area covered by Health Education England Yorkshire and Humber as the fees are paid by the Local Education Training
