Programme specification:
The programme:
- is distinctive in offering both a firm general grounding in Greek and Roman literature, history and culture and the opportunity to develop individual interests and specialisms;
- has a unique research context for Classical study in the UK - within a large multi-disciplinary School of Languages, Cultures and Societies with a strong research focus on European heritage and world literatures. This context allows opportunities to draw on the expertise of School and Faculty colleagues in European traditions of classical scholarship stretching back to medieval and renaissance Italy and France;
- is distinctive in having the flexibility to offer opportunities to begin or continue the study of an ancient language (Ancient Greek or Latin) through structured modules with weekly contact hours;
- is distinctive amongst regional Classics Masters for having 2-contact hours per week as minimum for every module in semester 1 and 2;
- is distinctive amongst regional Classics Masters in having full cohort lectures and seminars (Semester 1) and full-cohort group seminars and tutorials (Semester 2) throughout teaching terms. Only the Dissertation sees the switch entirely to the supervisory model, where the individual student works alone with their chosen supervisor;
- is distinctive in retaining the part-time study option to support widening participation;
- is the only M-level programme in the interdisciplinary study of Classics offered in the Yorkshire region.
