Programme specification:

This Joint Honours programme will be distinctive because it combines the core components of existing Leeds Thai studies programmes, building language skills, with the study of the Asia-Pacific region and its political economy. This combination is not offered in any other university in the UK, or to our knowledge internationally.

Moreover, Leeds is an internationally-recognised centre for training undergraduates and postgraduates in the dynamics of the Asia-Pacific region. Students on this programme combination will have the benefit of a year of study at a university in Thailand providing added value.

On sucesful completion of the programme, students will:
- have a sound knowledge of aspects of the Asia Pacific region and Southeast Asian societies, cultures and political economies;
- be able to effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis concerning the Asia Pacific region and Southeast Asia, in particular Thailand;
- be able to communicate fluently, effectively, skilfully and appropriately, both orally and in written form, in the Thai language, whilst maintaining a high degree of grammatical accuracy, with native or other competent speakers;
- be able to demonstrate an ability critically to evaluate change and development of the Asia-Pacific region from a variety of perspectives, and one or more aspects of the literature, language, culture, linguistic context, history, politics, geography, social and economic structure of Thailand.
