Entry requirements:

A level or Advanced Higher: AAA-AAB from 3 A2/Advanced Higher including Biology and preferably another science or science-related subject. General Studies and Critical Thinking excluded. If Biology is the only science subject then an A grade is required.
International Baccalaureate: 35-34 (with 18-16 HL) including 6 in HL Biology and another science or science-related subject at HL.

Programme specification:

The BSc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme offers students an excellent breadth and depth of knowledge plus the exceptional experience of research.

By the end of the BSc Ecology and Environmental Biology programme, students should have a broad grounding in biological science, a specific understanding of the interactions between species and their environments, the ecology of populations and communities of organisms and the application of such ideas to important questions concerning climate change, sustainable agriculture and conservation, and should have direct experience in carrying out independent ecological research. They should also have the opportunity to complement this specific educational programme with a range of relevant biological and environmental science training. Field-based research training will be provided in each of the first two years of the programme, and there will be an opportunity for field-based independent research in their final year.

Academic tutorials will be offered at levels 1 and 2 with a different tutor each semester, providing opportunities to interact more closely with a variety of staff. Students will also have a personal tutor for the full 3 years, providing continuity and progressive guidance. Level 1 and level 2 tutorials will include a number of workshops to teach transferable skills e.g. library use, presentation skills etc. followed by assessed exercises e.g. essays, talks etc. as opportunities to practice these skills in a subject-specific context. Students will build on these over subsequent years of specialisation and training. In their final year students will continue with their personal tutorial meetings and attend supervision meetings with their project supervisor.
