Entry requirements:

- Normally three A-Levels, or 2 A-levels and 2 AS-levels, at grades ABB, including Mathematics and Physics or Chemistry. Excludes General Studies.
- International Baccalaureate: Normally 32 points overall, with 16 at the Higher Level.
- Scottish Highers: Normally BBBBB, including Mathematics.

WHY?

An ability to understand the behaviour of Earth's atmosphere and its response to human inputs requires a broad approach encompassing the physical and chemical processes at work. Students wiill explore the discipline both at the University of Leeds and at a University overseas. This provides the unique opportunity to explore the Meteorology and Climate Science in different contexts.


WHAT?

The programme is designed to give students an understanding of the physical and chemical processes governing the natural and polluted atmosphere, in particular to:
- develop knowledge of the processes that drive the atmosphere
- understand how the physical and chemical processes interact
- gain knowledge of the tools used to observe and simulate the behaviour of the atmosphere
- appreciate the role of human activities in driving changes to the atmosphere
- encourage development of analytical skills and a predictive capability.


HOW?

On completion of the programme, students should be able to:
- appreciate the complex coupling between chemical and physical processes in the Earth -Atmosphere system
- use a wide range of statistical, computational and observational skills to analyse the behaviour of the atmosphere
- be able to quantify the effect of human activities on the atmosphere and be able to explain their future implications
- appreciate the wide range of timescales of atmospheric change and be able to put human activities in context.


WHO?

This programme is suitable for students with a background in physical and chemical science who wish to apply a wide range of scientific skills to understanding the complex behaviour of the atmosphere.

Graduates of the programme will be well suited to a wide range of careers in public and private organisations related to meteorology, pollution and regulation, as well as further academic study or research.

The programme is accredited by the Royal Meteorological Society as meeting the requirements for Chartered Meteorologist (CMet) and Registered Meteorologist (RMet) status.
