Programme specification:
This full time, 12-month Masters programme enables students to gain in-depth knowledge of the regional context - political, economic and social. Regional competence is enhanced through language training (in either Chinese, Japanese or Thai). Different entry-level points enable students to maximise their own potential, either gaining basic language skills encouraging daily interaction within the regional context or enhanced language skills, making it possible for students to use primary sources in their research.
As such this programme meets the needs of individuals entering professional careers who want to gain regional expertise (including competence in an East Asian language) or mid-career professionals with experience living and working in an Asian context, who wish to consolidate and build on their experience through formal academic study. The programme may also be of interest to students who aspire toward a Doctorate, but who currently lack adequate language skills or regional expertise or who are, as yet, uncertain of the field in which they want to specialise.
Key Features:
- Intensive language tuition which leads to competence in an East Asian language
- Comprehensive interdisciplinary research-led teaching on the people and communities of East Asia
- Advanced methodological training which provides students with context-specific research training and instruction on the key stages and available methods of conducting independent, theory-driven research in the humanities and social sciences
- Skills training in writing abstracts, papers and proposals and in verbal presentations and group discussion
- Opportunities to attend research events & conferences
- Access to world-class research and teaching facilities
