Entry requirements:

Normally a first degree and at least 2 years' experience in the field of education.
Other applicants with appropriate experience will be considered on an individual basis.

There are 3 possible accreditation routes for applicants: Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)


- Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) - credit transfer for applicants with PGCE within the last 5 years - Portfolio with a short commentary (c1,000 words)

Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) for applicants who have successfully completed a NPQ or a YLC programme - portfolio with a short commentary (c1000 words)

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) for other applicants - A portfolio with a Critical Reflection (3000-4000 words) - a discursive and critical reflection on the evidence included in the portfolio

Programme specification:

Different modules have their own particular aims and objectives. However, all taught modules and the Dissertation aim to enhance the professional development of experienced teachers. An overall course aim is to ensure that this development takes place in the context and atmosphere of the latest research in education and the particular specialisms of the students. The course is designed to develop the necessary educational understanding, analytical skills and leadership qualities for success in education through the raising of pulils' achievement and school improvement. The structure of the programme permits teachers to develop these requirements in all curriculum areas, at all levels and in all phases.
