Programme specification:
This MA scheme is distinctive in being the most comprehensive of its kind within English departments in the UK. As such, it explores the diversity and richness of new writings in English from the five regions of the Commonwealth into which the postcolonial field is conventionally divided; and it examines the theoretical issues raised by colonial and postcolonial literatures.
A compulsory module provides an overview of the subject and option modules cover the literatures of South Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Canada, New Zealand and Australia as well as black British writing. Chosen research projects / dissertation projects must lay within the field of Postcolonial literary and cultural studies.
This distinctive programme allows students to develop an existing enthusiasm for the literatures from Commonwealth countries and to explore further those areas of the subject which may not have figured significantly in their undergraduate programme. It affords an excellent platform for work at doctoral level.
