Programme specification:

This full time, 12-month Master of Research (MRes) programme is designed to prepare students for a research career with an area specialism. All students are expected to either be a native speaker or to have already had substantial language training in an East Asian language. The MRes bridges the gap between undergraduate studies in East Asian Studies (or equivalent) and either PhD-level study or research roles in government, media, business or the third sector.

Key Features:
- Practical research experience - 50% of the MRes is an independent research project supervised by one of our faculty members giving students the opportunity to develop specialised knowledge in key areas of interest and to design and undertake a substantial piece of publishable research.

- Advanced methodological training which provides students with context-specific research training and instruction on the key stages and available methods of conducting independent, theory-driven research in the humanities and social sciences.

- Skills training in writing abstracts, papers and proposals and in verbal presentations and group discussion.

- Opportunities to attend research events & conferences.

- Access to world-class research and teaching facilities.
