MSc Molecular Medicine

Total credits: 180

Entry requirements:

BSc 1st class or 2i, or equivalent (for example a pass in MBChB, BDS), in a relevant scientific discipline which would normally be one of the biological sciences but a natural sciences graduate will be considered. Subject to University regulations MBChB or BDS students who had completed 3 years of study would be eligible to intercalate.

English language requirements
An overall score of 7.0 on IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with at least 6.0 in writing and no other skill below 6.5; from a TOEFL paper based test the requirement is a minimum score of 600, with 4.5 in the Test of Written English (TWE); from a TOEFL computer based test the requirement is a minimum score of 250, with 4.5 TWE; from a TOEFL Internet based test the requirement is a minimum score of 100, with 25 in the "Writing Skills" score.

Programme specification:

At the end of the programme students should:

- have gained an in-depth knowledge and systematic understanding of the principles, extent, application and potential of Molecular Medicine
- have a comprehensive understanding of research techniques applicable to Molecular Medicine
- be able to critically evaluate current research, identify gaps in knowledge, generate testable hypotheses and design protocols to answer research questions in Molecular Medicine
- be able to independently interpret and judge the quality of experimental data
- be able to communicate ideas and results in writing and verbally to specialist and non-specialist audiences
- have acquired the generic qualities and transferable skills required for employment or entry into postgraduate research study




The programme will:
- provide structured individualised learning and training in a research environment of international excellence
- be delivered by academics at the forefront of knowledge generation ranging from molecular discovery to translational application
- engage students in research projects using the latest technologies that generate results with scientific impact and potential for improving patient health
- equip students for a range of biomedical scientific careers
