Entry requirements:

A degree equivalent to a UK upper second class honours (2.1) degree or higher in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, or a related discipline; or a good lower second class (2.2) honours degree accompanied by demonstration of specific competence in power electronics, electrical machines or drives.

Programme specification:

This programme aims to develop students' skills at solving challenging engineering problems in the area of power conversion systems and renewable energy with appropriate electronic and electrical systems design solutions. At the end of the programme students should be confident in their ability to realise and integrate electric drives, control systems and electronic power conversion for a diverse range of engineering applications.

This is an advanced course in the area of electrical engineering but with a renewable energy theme. The programme is distinctive in that it provides a strong electric drives and control core backed up with power generation and electronic conversion for renewable energy sources. The programme offers a unique set of modules in the efficient generation and use of electricity from solar and wind power. Substantial elements of practical work will be carried out by the students, giving them confidence with hardware implementations using electric drives, microcontroller control and electronic conversion circuits. Students will develop into versatile electrical engineers who can apply their skills in a diverse range of industry sectors.
