Programme specification:

This specialized certificate is designed primarily to meet the needs of those professionals who work closely with children who have developmental disorders. These professionals are, in the main, from education or the health service and work with children from the early years through to secondary age level.

The programme is also a suitable course for parents of children with developmental disorders who wish to understand and act upon the condition. It is informed by expertise and research work within the School, international and national contacts together with in-house research supported by funding from agencies such as ESRC and Action Research and private and charitable organizations within the UK who work with children showing such disorders.

The certificate is unique in that for each developmental disorder it does not promote one particular method for assessment or management. It builds upon the available research and clinical evidence whether in education and health or in the home, and offers professionals and parents the opportunity to examine the models that are most appropriate for their context.
