PGCert Public Health (International) - Health Management, Planning and Policy

Entry requirements:

Academic requirements:-
Either: Candidates should be health or allied professionals with at least a 2:2 honours degree or an international equivalent in a related subject (for example, medicine, allied health field, social sciences, management or administration), plus at least 2 years' working experience in a health service;
Or: exceptionally a professional diploma in a health related discipline with 4 years' relevant experience.
English language requirements:
Candidates whose first language is not English or who have not been educated previously in English will need to attain ONE of the following:
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - an overall band of 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each component skill
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - - 92 with no less than 21 in listening, 21 in reading, 23 in speaking and 22 in writing

While there are no QAA subject benchmarks for a PGD Public Health (International) - HMPP, the programme objectives in this programme are in line with those of global competitors. Programme benchmarks are included in the programme specifications in Section F. Programme specification:

The programme at Leeds is one of the few programmes in the UK to offer a focus on health management, planning and policy. This focus, provides the opportunity to study in a multidisciplinary environment where learning and teaching is shared with other NCIHD postgraduate students. The city of Leeds is a premier student destination because of its multi-culture, variety of student accommodation within close proximity to the university campus, a supportive learning environment (libraries, computer clusters, work space, dedicated post-graduate facilities), and low cost of living compared to that of London. The NCIHD and the University of Leeds are brands that attract students as does the strong international working background of our academics.

The programme offers an expanded focus on the key concepts and conceptual frameworks of health systems strengthening and models of health planning and management tools by using internationally established principles and applying them to a local context. This is highly innovative, cutting-edge learning, and to the best of our knowledge, unique to this programme.

The new programme title of 'Public Health' will ensure the programme keeps pace with equivalent programmes in the UK and other European countries, eg, KIT); London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; Liverpool School of Tropical Medical Medicine, etc. In some international contexts Public Health degrees carry greater recognition for career progression than Masters degrees, thus enhancing the programme’s attractiveness.
