Programme specification:
MA Applied Psychology of Music programme is aimed at advanced students who intend to work within music education (instrumental and classroom), performance, community music, music therapy, music technology, computer science, and/or applied fields such as marketing, consumer behaviour, and film music composition. The distinctive focus will be upon the application of existing research in psychology of music within these domains alongside the development of domain-specific research methods. The programme manager has a substantial track record in applied research and the teaching staff for this programme between them cover almost all approaches to music psychology research within their research activity. In addition the programme will attend to the development of generic and scholarly/research techniques. The programme is designed to provide a logical progression from the undergraduate Psychology of Music modules currently offered by the School of Music at Leeds University and is also an attractive course for Music graduates from other universities. The programme will also provide the training and preparation necessary for students with ambitions to study the Psychology of Music to MPhil/PhD level.
