Programme specification:

The programme provides an opportunity for students from a wide range of pharmacy practice environments to work with each other and learn from each other, mixing students from both primary and secondary care pharmacy

There is flexibility in the course, within modules allowing the development of the skills of pharmacists as flexible practitioners according to their developing interests and the opportunities provided by their personal care load within their work environment. The prescribing and service development modules also give opportunities for pharmacists to learn with other healthcare professionals (principally, nurses and midwives)

The course sets out a clear partnership between the University, the student and their work-based manager and work-based tutor, and this together with assessment methods linked to the students' practice and work requirements allows for a strong work based learning focus.

The ability to complete the prescribing qualification as part of the programme is a distinctive aspect and a strong selling point.

The use of learning needs analysis, learning agreements and self reflection makes the course integrated with the GPhC CPD framework

At the end of the programme students will be able to :
- Critically apply specialist knowledge in order to provide pharmaceutical care to patients in different settings
- Effectively communicate complex information and provide specialised advice within the healthcare environment
