Programme specification:
The programme will translate excellence in research in the field of cement and concrete science into recognition within industry by providing a comprehensive yet detailed programme covering all aspects of cement and concrete.
The programme will only be offered as a part-time course, and only by distance learning. This is a new development for the School. However, the programme has already been run successfully for many years at other institutions, but is not currently on offer within the UK. This provides the School with a perfect opportunity to develop links with the construction sector in a field in which the School has a strong research reputation.
The delivery of the programme by distance learning is a new development within the School. This should aid recruitment of students from industry, maintaining the relevance of the programme to industry. Furthermore, delivery by distance learning should ensure global recruitment. The development of new material would also make an ideal opportunity for the university to showcase its approach to blended learning; perhaps with the development of new video material.
By recruiting primarily from industry, the programme aims to ensure that all of the Masters research projects remain relevant to industry, with the anticipation that projects will be conducted within the student’s place of work, confronting a problem which is specific to their field.
