Programme specification:
At the end of the programme students should:
- demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of concepts, information, theories and methods at the forefront of the study of Theology and Religious Studies;
- exhibit mastery in the exercise of generic and subject-specific intellectual abilities;
- demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of theories, methods and skills applicable to their own research or advanced scholarship
- take a proactive and self-reflective role in working and to develop professional relationships with others;
- proactively formulate ideas and hypotheses and to develop, implement and execute plans by which to evaluate these;
- critically and creatively evaluate current issues, research and advanced scholarship in the field of Theology and Religious Studies
The programme will build on existing TRS PGT provision by providing a new and more flexible pathway through our current MA module offerings. Students will have the opportunity to specialise in either “Theology” or “Religious Studies” depending on their choice of core module/s. The programme will include the Graduate Certificate as a point of entry. The flexibility and relatively generic character of the programme suggest that it may well be of interest to, e.g., professional development and general interest students, and a 60 credit programme may well suit their needs best.
The programme will be distinctive in national terms because of the particular expertise in TRS at Leeds. Notably, students will have the opportunity to use “theological” and “religious studies” methods in combination, and will be able to study diverse religious traditions in the contemporary UK context, as well as pursuing various sub-fields within TRS, including religion and public life, religion and global development, and philosophical approaches to religion.
