A good first degree (upper second class Honours or above) in any subject or evidence of significant work experience (minimum of 3 years) in an in an arts/cultural organisation. IELTS 7 or equivalent for non-native English speakers.

Distinctiveness of the programme:
This new postgraduate programme will help to develop the next generation of arts fundraisers and leaders and make a seminal academic contribution towards what is already being acknowledged as a ground-breaking, national training and development programme.
The arts and cultural industries are regarded as creative, challenging, vibrant and dynamic and there is a widely acknowledged need for highly trained managers to manage and lead every facet of them. As an emerging academic discipline, Arts Management develops, challenges and tailors a range of broad-based business skills and explores them within the theoretical frameworks of creative practice and cultural policy.
The opportunity to develop this highly specialised new programme in Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy, which sits within the broader field of Arts Management, has come from the University of Leeds’ key role in the Arts Council England funded Transforming Arts Fundraising project (for further information please see http://artsfundraising.org.uk). As part of this project, the University of Leeds pledged to explore possibilities to accredit elements of a national arts fundraising school, and this new postgraduate programme marks the realisation of this ambition.
Housed in the University of Leeds’ Creative and Cultural Industries Exchange Hub and designed and developed in collaboration with the University's School of Performance and Cultural Industries and Leeds University Business School, this new Postgraduate Certificate will provide a platform for graduates wishing to develop their careers in arts fundraising and philanthropy and/or progress onto Masters study in the broader fields of Arts Management and Cultural Leadership. It will attract a secure number of Arts Fundraising Fellows each year from all over England, some of whom will hopefully progress onto full Masters programmes at the University of Leeds.
The programme comprises an intensive executive summer school and a sustained period of professional practice in a prestigious arts organisation, which is supported by the University via webinars and individual tutorials and supervision. The programme provides an academic and theoretical framework for the Fellows’ practice-based learning, giving them an opportunity to reflect on and contextualise their professional practice. It provides access to the latest research and insights into Arts Fundraising, Arts Management and Cultural Leadership and to some senior leaders from the University of Leeds’ established cultural partners such as Opera North, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Northern Ballet and Yorkshire Dance. It has the potential to position the University of Leeds as a leading provider of academic provision in the emerging field of Arts Fundraising.
