Programme specification:

This programme provides flexible opportunities for professional development in the area of deaf education looking for CPD opportunities as an alternative route to (the MA Deaf Education ToD) gaining the mandatory teacher of the deaf qualification.

The programme is delivered through distance learning materials, which are supported by tutorials and regular day schools and two short residential stays. The department has a national reputation both in teaching and research in the field of deaf education and drawn students to current deaf education courses from all over England and Northern Ireland.

THe learning drawn on students' synchronous work with deaf children, in schools and colleges, allowing them to reflect upon their experiences and relate this practical knowledge to their reading and analysis of current theories and research regarding childhood deafness, development and learning.

The programme particularly encourages deaf applicants and drawn on the established expertise in the School of Education to provide the appropriate access to and support during the course. This commitement to widening participation further supports University-wide initiatives to encourage deaf students to study at Leeds at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The distance programme is delivered through a combination of on-line tools and face-to-face teaching. This is supported by regional tutorials as well as synchronous and asynchronous discussion and activities in the University's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).
