Programme specification:

The programme will:

i) offer a learning opportunity that, within the context of the UK's broad spectrum of higher education, is unique in its focus on the nature of mind, as studied through a variety of disciplinary perspectives.

ii) enable a close co-ordination of research and teaching in focussed areas of academic endeavour in philosophy of mind, history of psychology and neuroscience, and cognate areas of psychology.

iii) develop transferable skills in the analysis of mind and critique of theories thereof that will be useful not only in academic careers, but also in the professions of education, business, consultancy, management, marketing, social work and journalism.

Students must study 120 credits in total (a mixture of compulsory and optional or discovery modules). To pass the year they must pass 100 credits including all modules flagged as PFP.

Candidates will be permitted to study up to 10 credits of discovery modules.

Optional modules:

Students must take either PSYC1604 Social Psychology or PSYC1603 Developmental Psychology.

Candidates will be required to study up to 20 credits from the following optional modules:

Candidates will be required to study at least 40 credits from the following optional modules.

Candidates will be required to study 30 credits from the following optional modules (NB the 40 credits of Psychology modules taken at this level must not all be in a single semester)

Discovery modules:

Candidates may study up to 20 credits of discovery modules at Level 2.

Candidates may also choose to study the following optional module.

Candidates will be required to study ONE of the following modules

Candidates will be required to study one module from the following list.

Please note that you cannot take PSYC3403, PSYC3404, PSYC3410, PSYC3418, PSYC3419, PSYC3421 or PSYC3454 if you have taken the corresponding modules at level 2 (PSYC2503, PSYC2504, PSYC2510, PSYC2518, PSYC2519, PSYC2521 or PSYC2554).

Candidates will be required to study 40 credits from the following optional modules:
Note that either PHIL3421 or HPSC3450 is REQUIRED unless the student has chosen to use PHIL3421 as the 'supporting module' associated with PRHS3001, in which case HPSC3450 is required.
