Programme specification:

At the end of the programme students should be able to:

Understand and apply complex rules of International Law to novel problems and real-world and hypothetical scenarios;

Critically evaluate the legal rules and underlying policies concerning International Law;

Undertake independent research and construct legal argument in the appropriate form; and

Work independently to prescribed timescales, including contributing in seminar discussions to the critical evaluation of issues relating to International Law.

The distinctiveness of the programme lies in its coherent provision of postgraduate level study in the area of International Law. Students on this programme will develop a specialised and detailed knowledge of the law concerning international law.

Further, the development of research skills in public international law is central to the design of the programme, in particular the module concerning 'Legal Research Skills'. Successful completion of this module will ensure that students have the necessary research skills in international law to work independently and effectively on their research projects (in particular in the context of the dissertation).
