Good honours degree (First or 2:i or its equivalent) in English Literature, or a degree scheme including English Literature, or in a related subject. Appropriate IELTS where applicable.

Programme specification:
The programme will provide students with the opportunity to engage in the postgraduate study of English Literature at the highest level. One of the longest-established MA programmes in English Literature in the UK, this programme allows students a truly massive range of choice, from Arthurian Legend to Victorian New Media to contemporary representations of US citizenship and belonging.
Students select from a wide variety of specialist options reflecting the historical and geographical range of literature in English. Areas in which the School has been traditionally renowned – most notably Postcolonial Studies, Victorian Literature, Medieval and Renaissance Literatures – are generously represented. A varied portfolio of modules from the fields of American Literature and Culture, Romantic Literature, Modern, and Contemporary Literatures is also available. In recent years, the School has been consolidating and developing its teaching of Creative Writing and students on the MA in English Literature programme will have access to exciting learning opportunities in that area.
The School’s exceptional richness and diversity are evident in this programme’s portfolio of modules. As well as providing coverage of the many fields listed above, this portfolio boasts an intellectual range that includes memory studies, eco-criticism and the study of temporality, along with other important and emergent fields. Throughout the year there is a wide range of intellectual and social activities available within one of the largest and most successful Schools of English in the country. The opportunities afforded by these activities will complement the rigour and variety of the more formal learning opportunities offered by this programme.
Supported by specialist supervision, students write a research project on a subject of their choice (within any area of English Literature) The research resources of the University's Brotherton Library will also be available to all students on the programme who may require them.
This rich, distinctive programme allows students to develop an existing enthusiasm for many given fields and to further explore areas which may not have figured significantly in their undergraduate programme. It also affords an excellent platform for work at doctoral level.
