Entry requirements:

Direct Entry to PGCert Oral Surgery
Primary dental qualification that is acceptable to the University of Leeds: BDS, BChD or equivalent.

Full or temporary registration with the GDC.

One year full time (or equivalent) post-graduation clinical experience in General Dental Practice or Hospital Practice

IELTS: 7.0 overall with no less than 6.5 in any component.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) of 87 (with no less than 20 in listening, 20 in reading, 22 in speaking and 21 in writing)
TOEFL Internet-based Test: 100 overall with no less than 24 in Listening, 21 in Reading, 22 in Writing and 26 in Speaking.
Academic Reference from a registered dental practitioner.

There are no QAA subject benchmarks for Masters level taught dental programmes. Benchmarking was undertaken against the appropriate level General Dental Council objectives for dental subject specific postgraduate training programmes and against the available guidelines for treatment undertaken by Level 2 – dentists with enhanced skills – practitioners.

Programme specification:

The programme will:
Use a combination of teaching methods to encourage students to adopt an inquisitive attitude to clinical dogma and guidance. Students will be encouraged to appreciate the limitations of published guidelines and adopt a pragmatic, patient centred approach to treatment planning.
Be unique in furnishing students with a combination of highly relevant clinical skills and transferable intellectual skills related to evidence appraisal, service improvement and management.
Be the only UK programme to offer highly clinically applicable case-based learning through use of clinical scenarios and patient simulators.
Provide scientific, technical and communication skills appropriate for delivery of advanced oral surgery in general dental practice, consistent with the requirements for provision of Tier 2 treatments.
Encourage students to seek and use personal reflection, peer and patient feedback in order to guide professional development.
