Programme specification:
Leeds has distinctive research strengths in several areas of analytic philosophy, which underpins the programme and its focus on analytic philosophy, and ensures learning based on the latest research, including that produced in Leeds. Active engagement with research is built into all stages of the programme, from class presentations in the core modules to the development of a dissertation topic aligned with the student’s interests and under programme lead guidance. This will prepare students for doctoral research or non-academic professional roles through the development of transferable skills in communication, research, and critical analysis and reasoning.
Core modules develop understanding and proficiency in analytic philosophical skills and knowledge of landmark debates. A wide range of optional modules provide the opportunity for students to develop their own interests and specialism.
The programme will:
1. engage students in close study of some landmark debates in analytic philosophy;
2. develop students’ skills with key methods and techniques in analytic philosophy;
3. introduce students to some current debates in Philosophy and enable them to locate their own position and pursue their own interests in relation to those debates;
4. allow students to pursue a personal interest in a specialised area of philosophy by taking appropriate optional modules;
5. develop students’ skills in the practice of independent research in a specialised area of philosophy.
