Entry requirements:

- An honours degree in appropriate biological sciences or Medicine.
- Applicants with accredited prior work experience within embryological laboratory will also be considered.
- For non-english speakers we require an IELTS score of overall 6.5 (at least 6.0 in all components) or an overall score of 92 in TOEFL (with 21 in listening & reading, 22 in writing and 23 in speaking).

Programme specification:

The programme will provide a high quality standard of education in human embryology. The programme builds on the specific and generic outcomes of degree programmes in a wide range of specialisms (Medicine, Biological Sciences etc) and offers advanced learning in the subject of Clinical Embryology. Students will gain a nationally recognised qualification that will enhance knowledge in the subject of embryology and help to establish good practice in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs). It will enhance professional and academic development of clinical embryologists while allowing them to remain in post.
The programme of study will enhance students' depth of knowledge and understanding of topics and issues within and related to clinical embryology. The ethical dilemmas posed by assisted reproductive technologies and the rapid advances in the technologies available will be covered. Students will gain a wide breadth of knowledge that will give them confidence in their subject and allow skills to be transferred to the workplace.
The course is delivered via distance learning. This will allow the students to take the course while in full time employment. Full use will be made of the Internet for delivery of teaching materials, tutoring and conferencing. Two residential workshops over 2 years will allow the students to meet staff as well as their fellow students, delivery of lectures by invited lecturers, participation in practical sessions, seminars and discussion groups.
Students will be encouraged to maintain contact with tutors and their fellow students throughout the duration of the course.
