Year 1
Learning outcomes
On completion of the level 0 year students should have provided evidence of being able to:- demonstrate a familiarity with the basic concepts and principles of the subjects they have studied to the standard required for level 1 entry to their chosen pathway.- demonstrate a familiarity with the principles and use of standard laboratory equipment.- demonstrate practical competency in making observations and measurements accurately and safely.- evaluate qualitative and quantitative data.- communicate the results of their work.- apply their knowledge in problem solving and further study.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- qualities and transferable skills necessary to undertake further study at undergraduate degree level 1 in their chosen named pathway.- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility.
Assessment
The modules involve a range of coursework and examination requirements, details of which are given in the module descriptions. Overall there is a higher weighting for examination components than coursework, except for the transferable skills module, which is assessed entirely through coursework.

The learning context for this year will be predictable, providing a familiarisation with the disciplines.
