Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- demonstrate their ability to cope with a significant change in their environment and adapt to a new culture and learning paradigm;
- broaden their understanding and knowledge of their subject specialism(s);
- gain deeper understanding of the country in which they are studying;
- improve their foreign language skills (in exchanges where the language is not English).

Transferable (key) skills

Develop transferable skills in openness and sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and culture.

Assessment

The student should normally be assessed by the host institution according to their normal procedures. An official transcript of the grades obtained should be provided.

Learning context

To be arranged with the host institution and subject to the approval of the Year Abroad Tutor. The study will normally involve taught courses that do not duplicate those taken by the student when they are at Leeds. They should, however, be chosen to provide adequate preparation for the courses that the student will take at Leeds upon their return.
