Year 3

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- place their specialist knowledge and understanding gained during their programme into the workplace context;
- apply their specialist knowledge and understanding in a position of employment;
- demonstrate enhanced practical knowledge, experience and skill in aspects such as commerce, manufacturing and research relevant to their programme of study;
- demonstrate practical experience of a workplace environment;
- demonstrate and appreciation of employment and career opportunities
- demonstrate an ability to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to problem solving associated with the discipline;
- work autonomously within a structured environment;
- conform to professional boundaries and norms where appropriate.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied;
- skills necessary for the communication of information;
- skills necessary for problem solving;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making;
- skills necessary for negotiation and interaction with employers and work colleagues;
- skills necessary for organisational and personal management, setting objectives, meeting deadlines, accepting criticism, self awareness of strengths and limitations.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- a self-reflective, personal placement log;
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion and to apply theoretical concepts in a practical application.

Learning context

The learning context for this year/award will be largely via training and self-reflection. The study will be structured within a framework of tasks that provide breadth of study and opportunities for demonstrating proficiency in the application of concepts and techniques.

Opportunities will be provided for students to develop interests and informed opinions and to undertake some autonomous study through supervised structured support.
