Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
Analyse media law and interpret its application in current media practice.
Engage in the advanced and extended study of cognate areas of media and communication.
Critically reflect upon the application of media production skills within a workplace.
Design and conduct independent research using appropriate methodology.
Communicate independent and in-depth research with proficiency, according to the appropriate style.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment including the ability to write concise and accurate English; basic audio and video production skills; analysing and sifting information and identifying key points.
Skills necessary for the communication of information: IT skills, personal presentation skills; general oral and written skills.
Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making: organisation, delivery to deadlines, punctuality.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

Demonstrating the ability top apply a broad range of aspects of the discipline through written examination, assessed coursework (research exercise, essay, group and individually produced audio and video artefacts) and assessment by log book.
Work that draws on a wide variety of material in both assessed essay and coursework audio and video artefacts.
The ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion.
The ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion through written essay and the presentation of individual and group-based research.
Demonstrating a broad knowledge base across core programme areas: news gathering, radio and online and TV production and also the inter-disciplinary study of journalism with law, politics and ethics.
