Learning outcomes
On completion of the year / programme students should be able to: - demonstrate a sound knowledge of issues at the environment-business interface;- demonstrate a familiarity with basic environment-business management principles;- demonstrate practical competencies in and decision making for improved environmental management;- acknowledge the complexity of the physical, social, economic and institutional factors at the interface between business activity and the environment;- demonstrate an ability to evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to problem solving associated with business-environmental management.Through their choice of optional modules, students will have the opportunity to specialise in particular aspects of environmental management. Through choice of electives, they will have the opportunity to complement their environmental management education with experience of other disciplines.
Transferable (key) skills
On completion of the year/programme, students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme, a basic proficiency in the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment in environmental and other careers, including:- intellectual skills (for example, interpreting and evaluating underlying concepts and principles, and presenting a structured and coherent simple argument);- practical skills (for example, basic competencies in field work);- communication skills (for example, communicating the results of their work effectively in oral and written form);- numerical and C&IT skills (for example, analysing basic qualitative and quantitative data sets);- interpersonal and teamwork skills (for example, recognising and respecting the views of other members in group work); - self management and professional development skills (for example, demonstrating their strengths and weaknesses and learners by use of the reflective portfolio and assessment feedback, and managing their time effectively to meet deadlines).
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of each module: - demonstrating sound knowledge and application of substantive learning outcomes;- demonstrating emerging abilities and competencies in transferable (key) skills.
