Year 3

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of:
- being able to communicate effectively information, arguments and analysis in a variety of spoken and written forms;
- having consolidated and extended knowledge and understanding of complex structures and registers of German;
- being able to demonstrate an ability to evaluate critically one or more aspects of the literatures, cultures, linguistic contexts, history, politics, geography, social and economic structures of the German-speaking world;
- being able to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and an awareness of and ability to engage with and respond to the ethical issues raised by the programme of study
- being able to demonstrate progress in the areas of personal independence, professionalism, autonomous learning and interpersonal communication.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
- oral, written and practical skills in German;
- the organisation of life and study in a German-speaking country;
- inter-personal skills required to operate in a German-speaking society
- the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;
- skills necessary for the communication of information;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making.
- lifelong learning skills such as time-management, group working, communication, planning and leadership.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes specified for the residence abroad and will be in line with assessment of the year abroad for all other programmes with German. This will include:include:

- language tasks as specified in the module description and as directed by the Residence Abroad tutor for German
- submission of a written report demonstrating that the learning outcomes for the year have been met in terms of personal, professional and academic development and the ability to reflect critically on the value of the experience in these areas
