Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- demonstrate an intermediate level of knowledge of both micro and macro economics- collect, interpret and evaluate empirical evidence on contemporary economic issues - understand and apply the essential principles of corporate finance including a critical awareness of topical developments and contentious issues- apply quantitative techniques appropriate to intermediate study in economics and finance- apply ideas and analysis from these disciplines to standard situations beyond the context in which they were originally studied- effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:Qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied- problem solving, analytical and numeracy skills by applying current theory and appropriate mathematical and statistical methods to economic and financial and problems- critical evaluation of theory and data in the investigation of research questions in economics- effective written communication in a variety of forms- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and self-management
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- knowledge and application of economic theory and applications and the principles of corporate finance through written examination- mathematical and statistical knowledge through applied coursework and written examination - research skills and the collections and interpretation of data through extended coursework essays
