Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:
-demonstrate a broad and critical understanding of the concepts, information, practical competencies and techniques which are associated with the theory and practice of work as an assistant healthcare practitioner with particular reference to
- the nature and context of professional working in health and social care settings;
- biological, psychological, sociological and policy knowledge;
- delivery to appropriate standards of delegated, protocol-based elements of health and social care;
- evaluate the relationship between organisational guidance and the ethics of professional practice and manage ethical issues associated with the conduct of an independent project;
- reflect critically on the global dimensions of their professional practice and on the ways in which they address different cultural norms in their professional practice;
- apply generic and subject specific intellectual qualities within relevant clinical and professional settings as an informed and reflective practitioner;
- appreciate and employ the main methods of enquiry in the subject and critically evaluate their appropriateness in professional and clinical settings;
- use a range of techniques to initiate and undertake the analysis of data and information;
- adhere to professional and disciplinary boundaries;
- effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:
- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment in assistant practitioner roles in health or social care;
- skills necessary for the exercising of professional responsibility as an assistant healthcare practitioner
- decision making;

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:
- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of professional knowledge and competencies to typical situations (including those that demonstrate complex needs) and to relatively straightforward untypical situations;
- demonstrating the ability to engage in critical dialogue between theory and professional practice;
- use of a range of formats for assessment that demonstrate skills of effective communication for both academic and professional settings;
- encouragement to explore new ideas and to test, evaluate and criticise received opinion;
- opportunity to design and implement an independent study project.
