Learning outcomes

- to demonstrate an in-depth specialist knowledge and mastery of techniques relevant to the study of aspects of teaching,
learning and assessment;
- to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of techniques and rationale for classroom-based practitioner research and
advanced scholarship;
- to demonstrate the capacity to describe, analyse and evaluate critically aspects of their own practice and that of other
education professionals;
- to demonstrate a critical ability to recognise distinctive features of a particular educational context and how these might
impact upon teaching and learning;
- to develop independently and proactively ideas for classroom-based enquiry through formulation of hypotheses,
development, implementation and execution of plans, analysis and evaluation;
- to understand the value of evidence-based practice as a vehicle for professional development and school improvement;

Transferable (key) skills

EDUC5016M Leading Teaching and Learning Through Evidence-based Practice - Independent critical engagement with
research and writings and professional debate about dealing with a range of aspects of teaching, learning and assessment and leadership. Development of a range of practitioner enquiry skills. Application, of related conceptual tools to analysing own classroom activities.

Assessment

EDUC5016M Leading Teaching and Learning Through Evidence-based Practice - Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and
understanding of a full range of key aspects of teaching, learning, assessment and leadership, along with appropriate enquiry
methodology, to prepare a report on activity in own classroom. Critically evaluate findings and consider implications for
own professional development and the school's development. The two assignments will focus on:
1. critical evaluation of the role collaboration - students will have the choice of focussing either on managing collaborative
learning for pupils, or, managing teacher collaboration in a department
2. critical evaluation of the role and effectiveness of formative assessment in supporting children's learning in the classroom.
