Learning outcomes
On completion of the programme students should have shown evidence of being able: - to demonstrate an in-depth specialist knowledge and mastery of techniques relevant to the study of aspects of teaching, learning and assessment; - to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of techniques and rationale of classroom-based practitioner research and advanced scholarship; - to demonstrate the capacity to describe, analyse and evaluate critically aspects of their own practice and that of other education professionals; - to demonstrate a fluent ability to recognise distinctive features of a particular educational context and how these might impact upon teaching and learning; - to develop proactively ideas for classroom-based enquiry through formulation of hypotheses, development, implementation and execution of plans, analysis and evaluation; - to understand the value of evidence-based practice as a vehicle for professional development and school improvement;
Transferable (key) skills
EDUC5017M Critical Study - The bringing together of practitioner enquiry skills and conceptual tools to identify and carry out a significant enquiry related to own professional concerns and those of schools. Ability to communicate effectively the findings both in writing and in oral presentation to fellow professionals.
Assessment
EDUC5017M Critical Study - Conduct an in-depth enquiry into one aspect of teaching, learning, assessment, leadership and associated themes, demonstrating breadth and depth of specialist knowledge, appropriate approaches to data collection, critical analysis and evaluation of findings. Critically consider implications for own professional development and school's development. Dissemination of findings and implications.
