MSc Strategic Management in the Global Environment

Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme, our students will:
i. Be able to identify, summarise and critically evaluate key theories and relevant empirical research evidence within the fields of management, international business or economics relevant to strategic management, and provide a professional insight into the operations of complex businesses in the global environment. (PA 1, 4)
ii. Be able to develop and critically discuss reasoned and logical arguments, reflecting current concepts and thinking in the field of strategic management. (PA 1, 5)
iii. Be able to critically evaluate differences in strategic management across cultures and countries and to propose appropriate solutions to problems arising thereof. (PA 2, 3)
iv. Be able to identify relevant information and define creative solutions to complex and unpredictable strategic management problems, by implementing appropriate decision making and problem solving tools (PA 3)
v. Be able to critically analyse, interpret and evaluate information from a wide range of relevant sources and demonstrate advance independent research skills in the field. (PA 4)
vi. Be able to produce professional quality written assignments and reports on the practices of strategic management. (PA 5)
vii. Be able to appreciate the importance and relevance of ethical issues in strategic management. (PA 6)
viii. Be able to apply practices, theories and analytical skills learned to practical and professional settings and contexts. (PA 7)
ix. Be able to confidently operate as an effective group member. (PA 7)
x. Be able to present and orally defend issues on practices of strategic management. (PA 5)

Assessment

Achievement for the Masters Degree will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the programme and will involve the achievement of the students in:
- demonstrating the ability to apply breadth and/or depth of knowledge to a complex specialist area;
- drawing on a range of perspectives on an area of study;
- evaluating received opinion;
- make sound judgements whilst understanding the limitations on judgements made in the absence of complete data.
