Learning outcomes

On completion of the programme students should have shown evidence of:

- understanding and knowledge of a spectrum of common and important childhood paediatric problems
- skills in critically appraising medical literature;
- skills in communication, teaching and managerial issues;
- an ability to critically evaluate their clinical practice and educational needs;
- self-directed their learning.

Transferable (key) skills

Postgraduate Diploma students will have had the opportunity to acquire the following abilities as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- independent learning and the ability to work in a way which ensures continuing professional development;
- ability to critically evaluate original research papers and apply the results to their own practice;
- communicate effectively with patients and colleagues;
- design and deliver effective teaching to students and colleagues;
- self direct their own learning needs.

Assessment

Achievement for the Postgraduate Diploma will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the programme and will involve the achievement of the students in:

- satisfactory completion of a written or oral presentation at the end of each taught modules;
- keeping a professional portfolio of achievements, clinical questions and teaching opportunities.
