Year 2

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year abroad students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- Engage in everyday conversation, write basic sentences and read simple texts in Arabic;
- Acquire academic and practical knowledge of an Arabic-speaking country;
- Develop personal independence, self-confidence, and the social and interpersonal skills required by group life.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- Oral, written and practical skills in Arabic;
- The organisation of life and study in an Arabic-speaking country;
- Inter-personal skills required to operate in Arabic-speaking society;
- The ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;
- Skills necessary for the communication of information;
- Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision-making.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes
specified for the residence abroad and will include:

- Successful completion of all courses as set by the students' host institution in the Middle East/North Africa.
