Learning outcomes
On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:- engage in everyday conversation, write basic sentences and read simple texts in Chinese.- acquire academic and practical knowledge of contemporary China.- develop personal independence, self-confidence, and the social and interpersonal skills required by group life.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to develop and practise:- oral, written and practical skills in Chinese;- the organisation of life and study in China;- inter-personal skills required to operate in Chinese society- the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;- skills necessary for the communication of information;- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes specified for the residence abroad and will include:- submission of a year-abroad log- successful completion of all courses including the language and studies exams as set by students' host university- submission of an essay assignment (in Chinese) in January - submission of an essay assignment (in English) in June
