Learning outcomes
On completion of the year abroad students should have provided evidence of being able to:- Engage in everyday conversation, write basic sentences and read simple texts in Chinese;- Acquire academic and practical knowledge of contemporary China;- Develop personal independence, self-confidence, and the social and interpersonal skills required by group life.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- Oral, written and practical skills in Chinese;- The organisation of life and study in China;- Inter-personal skills required to operate in Chinese-speaking society;- The ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;- Skills necessary for the communication of information;- Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision-making.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes specified for the residence abroad and will include: - Submission of a year-abroad log;- Successful completion of all courses including the language and studies exams as set by students' host university - Submission of an essay assignment (in Chinese) in January.
