Learning outcomes

In addition to meeting the requirements for the award of the Ordinary degree, students will have provided evidence of being able to:
Plan and execute a significant independent research project in the field of journalism and/or media and communications studies. In doing so students will have shown evidence of:
Being able to formulate an appropriate research question
Understanding how to select a suitable research methodology (including practice led or based research if appropriate)
Engaging critically with relevant research and evidence
Adhering to the principles of journalistic and research ethics
Presenting research results in the required format – either as a portfolio of journalistic works with
accompanying exegesis or a research dissertation.

Transferable (key) skills

- the transferable/key/generic skills necessary for employment related to the area(s) studied;
- the exercise of initiative and personal responsibility;
- the deployment of decision making skills in complex and unpredictable situations;
- the communication of information, ideas, problems and solutions in a variety of ways to a variety of audiences;
- the ability to undertake appropriate further training of a professional or equivalent nature;

Assessment

Award of the Honours degree will be based on satisfactory completion of the Ordinary degree plus successful completion of either COMM 3910 or COMM 3300
