Learning outcomes
Overall, on completion of their year abroad students should be able to demonstrate:- an ability to communicate confidently and proficiently with native or other competent speakers of French across the sometimes unpredictable and complex range of aspects of everyday life, work and/or study in a foreign culture - first-hand knowledge and appreciation of the target culture- enhanced cultural self-awareness.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to develop and practise: - interpersonal and transferable skills required to operate successfully in a French-speaking society, in a variety of roles and situations- resourcefulness and self-reliance.
Assessment
The achievement of the programme outcomes will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for each subject and will include:- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects of the disciplines;- work that draws on a wide variety of material associated with the disciplines;- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;- work that is both evaluative and analytical.Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by:- submission of a year-abroad logbook;- satisfactory feedback as to student performance from the foreign educational institution or employer;- successful completion of any academic work set for the student while overseas.
