Learning outcomes
On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of:- being able to achieve effective communication in German with native or other competent speakers;- being able to demonstrate complex receptive and productive language skills in a variety of contexts;- having consolidated and extended knowledge and understanding of complex structures of German;- being able to communicate effectively information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;- being able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of one or more aspects of the literatures, cultures, linguistic contexts, history, politics, geography, social and economic structures of the German-speaking world.On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:- achieve effective communication in Portuguese and in the other language studied with native or other competent speakers- demonstrate complex receptive and productive language skills in Portuguese and in the other language studied and in a variety of contexts- have consolidated and extended knowledge and understanding of complex structures of the Portuguese language and of the other language studied - demonstrate a knowledge of a variety of aspects of the literatures, cultures, history, social and economic structures of both Portuguese-speaking countries and those of the other language studied - effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- qualities and transferable skills related to the subject area(s) studied, valuable for employment, eg. be able to gather and analyse information from a variety of paper, audio-visual and electronic sources, be able to use IT effectively both as a means of communication and as an aid to learning;- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility;- the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;decision making. Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- qualities and transferable skills valuable for employment related to the subject area(s) studied, such as being able to gather and process information from a variety of paper, audio-visual and electronic sources, being able to use IT effectively both as a means of communication and as an aid to learning- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and independent learning, including the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners- decision making;
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- demonstrating the knowledge and application of a broad range of concepts, information and techniques relevant to the area of study;- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to the discipline;- the ability to evaluate critical opinions.Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects/competencies of the discipline- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to the discipline;- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
