Year 3

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year students should have provided evidence of being able to:
- communicate fluently and appropriately, maintaining a high degree of grammatical accuracy, in Italian with native or other competent speakers;
- consolidate and extend knowledge and understanding of complex structures and registers of Italian;

- demonstrate sophisticated receptive and productive language skills, in a variety of contexts;

- demonstrate an awareness and understanding of a culture and society other than their own.
- acquire academic and practical knowledge of contemporary Italy.
- develop personal independence, self-confidence, and the social and interpersonal skills required by group life.

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to develop and practise:

- oral, written and practical skills in Italian;
- the organisation of life and study in Italy;
- inter-personal skills required to operate in Italian society
- the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;
- skills necessary for the communication of information;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making.

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes specified for the residence abroad and will include:

- evaluation of information from the host institution e.g. university examination results, university attendance certificates, or reports on assistantships or work placements;
- regular submission of reports and assignments (in English/Italian) in December and April;
- submission of an essay assignment (in Italian) in by May
