BA Management and Portuguese

Learning outcomes

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- demonstrate a broad understanding of the marketing and financial accounting functions performed within organisations;
- apply generic and subject specific intellectual qualities to standard situations outside the context in which they were originally studied;
- effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms;
- understand how financial statements are produced and how to interpret financial information produced for publication and for planning, decision-making and control within the organisation;
- understand and apply basic marketing principles; and
- demonstrate the knowledge and understanding required for more advanced, specialist study in Programme Year 3.

On completion of the year/programme students should have provided evidence of being able to:

- achieve effective communication in Portuguese with native or other competent speakers
- demonstrate complex receptive and productive language skills in Portuguese and in a variety of contexts
- have consolidated and extended knowledge and understanding of complex structures of the Portuguese language
- demonstrate a knowledge of a variety of aspects of the literatures, cultures, history, social and economic structures of Portuguese-speaking countries
- effectively communicate information, arguments and analysis in a variety of forms
- demonstrate mastery of advanced level work in the other subject studied

Transferable (key) skills

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment related to the subject area(s) studied;
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility; and
- IT, numeric and modelling skills.

Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:

- qualities and transferable skills valuable for employment related to the subject area(s) studied, such as being able to gather and process information from a variety of paper, audio-visual and electronic sources, being able to use IT effectively both as a means of communication and as an aid to learning
- skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and independent learning, including the ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners
- decision making;

Assessment

Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- demonstrating the ability to apply a range of aspects of the discipline to complex, albeit standard, situations and simple, albeit novel or atypical, instances;
- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;
- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to the discipline; and
- the ability to evaluate and critically analyse received opinion.


Achievement will be assessed by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes of the modules specified for the year/programme and will include:

- demonstrating the ability to apply a broad range of aspects/competencies of the discipline
- work that is often descriptive in nature but drawing on a wide variety of material;
- demonstrating basic professional competencies relevant to the discipline;
- the ability to evaluate and criticise received opinion;
