Learning outcomes
On completion of the year abroad students should have provided evidence of being able to:- Engage in everyday conversation, write basic sentences and read simple texts in Portuguese;- Acquire academic and practical knowledge of contemporary Portuguese-speaking countries;- Develop personal independence, self-confidence, and the social and interpersonal skills.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- Oral, written and practical skills in Portuguese;- The organisation of life and study in a Portuguese-speaking country;- Inter-personal skills required to operate in Portuguese-speaking society;- The ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;- Skills necessary for the communication of information;- Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision making.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by:- Submission of a year-abroad logbook;- Satisfactory feedback as to student performance from the foreign educational institution or employer;- Successful completion of any academic work set for the student while overseas.
