Learning outcomes
On completion of the year abroad students should have provided evidence of being able to:- Engage in everyday conversation, write basic sentences and read simple texts in Thai;- Acquire academic and practical knowledge of contemporary Thailand;- Develop personal independence, self-confidence, and the social and interpersonal skills required by group life.
Transferable (key) skills
Students will have had the opportunity to acquire, as defined in the modules specified for the programme:- Oral, written and practical skills in Thai;- The organisation of life and study in Thailand;- Inter-personal skills required to operate in Thai-speaking society;- The ability to appreciate their strengths and weaknesses as learners;- Skills necessary for the communication of information;- Skills necessary for the exercising of personal responsibility and decision-making.
Assessment
Achievement will be assessed (on a Pass/Fail basis) by a variety of methods in accordance with the learning outcomes specified for the residence abroad and will include: - Continuous assessment in language and disciplinary modules by the host institution in Thailand;- Assessment of a research report undertaken during the course of the year abroad in Thailand;- Submission of a satisfactory log-book kept during the course of the year abroad.
